I have always said I would never be THAT senior. I always thought senioritis was merely an exaggeration, a rumor, spread around for the sake of tradition and relatability. It is now May of my senior year of high school, and I have a crippling case of senioritis. I have absolutely zero motivation to study or hand in assignments, and my ability to care at this point is nonexistent. There was actually a point where I told myself I’d study for an English test after I took a nap, and I ended up sleeping right into the next day just to avoid it. But, as scarce as your motivation is, there is still hope. There are ways to manage and to deal with your senioritis in a healthy, productive way.

  1. Use your hatred of doing your assignments as motivation to get them finished as soon as possible! The faster you hand things in, the sooner it’s all over.
  2. Make a list of everything you’re trying to avoid, so it’s on paper and you can’t hide from it forever.
  3. Remember that the workload only gets even MORE difficult in college, so you’d better learn to deal with it now.
  4. Seriously speaking, colleges look for things like a GPA dropping, or many absences or late’s on a transcript. It just looks bad. Don’t disappoint your dream school now when you’ve already gotten so far in the game.
  5. Know that this is your time. Next year whether you go to college, trade school, or straight to your career you want to be the best version of yourself possible. Watching movies, being lazy, and avoiding responsibilities is not going to prepare you for anything at all.
  6. Get enough sleep. Just do it.
  7. The finish line is right there, don’t give up now! You’ve worked way too hard up to this point to let your grades and incentive die now.

Senioritis won’t kill your motivation if you don’t let it. Keep your eyes on the prize, there’s just a month and a half left!
